Giving up

I decided to give up smoking. After 33 years of regular smoking, 20+ cigarettes a day.  While my health is still quite ok, I'm facing some changes of life in the family so I will try. Seriously.

I had one cigarette this morning, and I hope that that was the last. So far so good. 4 hours gone and with some simple breathing exercises I'm holding on easy.

The only thing which scares me is the weight gain. I already have some excess weight. It's autumn when Nature tells body to store everything for the winter. And then this. Giving up smoking AND controlling weight growth - that seems mission impossible right now.  LOL

Anyway, wish me good luck - I will need all of it to make this work! :D

  1. Congratulations! They say in the States that nicotine is as powerful and mind-altering as crack. My ex quit smoking when our daughter was diagnosed with asthma at 8 months. It took him 3 months of weaning off of cigarettes (pack a day smoker) while using the nicotine patch. My son smokes 1/2 a pack a day. Last summer he successfully quit after spending a month with my father in the mountains. Sadly, he returned to smoking when he returned to the environment that encourages smoking. Weaning your neurotrasmitters off of nicotine is both a physical and mental effort. Using aids isn't cheating. Good luck!

  2. Thank you! I really need encouraging. To be honest I failed today already - my friend (non smoker) visited and I took one for socialising. Just because of the habit. Such a silly failure. So overall today I have had 2 cigarettes so far and I do hope not to fail again. The good thing is - I had been telling myself so strongly things that the second cigarette tasted bad. I mean really BAD. So self-suggestion seems working on me.

  3. Thanks so much for the visit. Please do not start smoking again, I gave up about 25 years ago and I have never looked back. Just eat sensibly and you will not put on weight, I put on a little, but not very much. Stick with it, it is well worth the effort. I have a friend who says he is doing well with e-cigarettes what ever they may be, and he thinks he will very soon kick the habit after smoking for 45 years. Take care Diane

  4. Oh, thank you! So far it's going easy - no cigarette today! I nearly lit one at noon and then the doorbell rang so I put it back and went to door. Somebody was just hoping that I will fill the poll form, ha! After that the urge was gone again. I'm using TABEX. My son did quiet smoking on it so I have trust in it. Plus it's herbal. No seriou sideefects. And now I can recomend it - it really helps to stop the nicotine rush. Currently I'm fighting only with my social habits. Plus I think it also has some antidepressant effect as well because I feel very positive and light. You know, everybody warns that trying to quit smoking make you grumpy. Not me! So I'm like alcoholic trying to quit now - counting hours without a cigarette. Over 36 hours now! Yay!
